Ash: a by-product from biomass burning

Industry permits are vague when it comes to answering hard questions about the ash that will be left over once the “biomass” is burning to make electricity.

Questions like:

  •  What’s in the ash?  Some tests done on wood ash detect radioactivity.  Radioactivity of Wood Ash 061509.doc
  •  What will be done with the ash? Landfilled? Used on gardens?
  •  How many diesel truck loads per day will be hauling it away?
  •  How much ash will be generated?  We Energies “biomass” incinerator that will also burn solid waste will generate 29,200 tons of ash a year.  See page 28 of Permit Application. We Energies air_permit_application.pdf
